We always planned our scan sessions in weekends. So our models, stylists, makeup artist were more available, our office was blissfully almost magically quiet. I remember being somewhat grumpy having to get up early on a saturday and sunday after a busy week.

Then I caught myself with those thoughts: "Tristan, you have the best job ever! You started your own company, built a huge 3D scanner so you could finally make 3D people and now you are complaining about doing the work?" Those days were magical. Maybe less so in the moment because weirdly enough directing models, pressing a scan button, making sure naming was correct (spoiler, as you can see in some of the naming, it was not always the case) was all strangely very tiring but so worth it.

Then client projects got in the way of actually doing stuff with those scans. Investing in a 3D people collection you do upfront without any guarantees people will eventually buy the models so we had those urgent projects to make ends meet.

Now after 11 years since we started scanning and about 1.5 years of active work finally I've completed the collection of pre-posed models!

Some stats
Before 2026 we had 550 3D people in 515 scans on the site.

Now I've added 4244 3D people in 3874 scans.

In total we now have 4794 3D people in 4389 scans. (some scans contain multiple people)

Whenever I write "I" here I mean we of course. See the about page for a selection of people involved.
 apparently for lots of those 3D scan weekends I was not even there I found out while sorting through the collection. My co-founder Rudo Bisschop was carrying that burden while I was working on more urgent projects. My gratitude to him and all involved knows no words.

The project I started around 2008 and was accelerated in 2015 for about 8 years is now back in my sole care again.

What's next? 
I don't know. I do have about 1000 models in an a-pose? that could be rigged and skinned, made animatable. However it depends a bit on how relevant 3D models will remain the coming years I suppose. Do you have any good ideas? Do let me know at human@humanalloy.com
